Слепой старик путешествует по пустыне с помощью мальчика-проводника. Они натыкаются на постоялый двор, где гусляр (менестрель) поет четырем бандитам песни из «Завещания сына». Те знают некоторые детали из этих песен, но считают их просто выдуманными легендами. Чтобы узнать правду, они заставляют гусляра петь для них.
