На свой 11-й день рождения Марни Макбрайд отправляется с отцом в магазин старьев, чтобы выбрать подарок. Там таинственный лавочник с радостью дарит ей обувную коробку с четырьмя фигурками животных, каждое из которых обладает способностью магическим образом оживать.
